Scott Vander Hyden- Upward Stars Seattle Executive Director and CoachSport: Basketball
Where there is no guidance, the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory. Proverbs 11:14
Scott grew-up in Appleton Wisconsin and played collegiate basketball at Northland College. He has coached all levels of youth basketball since his beginnings with Upward over 13 years ago and been the director of Upward Stars Seattle for past 3 years
In 2006 I was blessed to be part of mission trip to Senegal West Africa. In a partnership with Upward Sports our church facilitated the construction of a basketball court at a school in a remote village. We then provided the local youth basketballs and skill camps in which hundreds of kids participated. That experience helped shape my understanding of what a powerful ministry for change youth sports can be.
Why I love to coach:
A coach has a unique opportunity to shape a young athletes life for the good, and the arena of competitive sports is the perfect training ground to teach many of lifes core foundations. At Upward Stars Seattle we are committed to the development of the total athlete; spiritually, mentally and socially and meeting each young player where they are at, and then helping them reach their full potential in God's plan for their live's.
